"Bend tube to specific angle"

I'm looking for a formula where I can insert different numbers for diameter of a tube and angle needed but don't know what this is catagorized as so don't know where to look.
Example: I have an aluminum tube that has a diameter of 1.75 inches and I want to (this is the tricky part to explain with out a picture) remove a wedge of material beginning with the wide part of the wedge on one side and end up with just enough material on the other to still be holding it together. Then fold the two together to close the wedge area that was removed, using the small amount that remained as a hinge point. The angle I want is, in this case, 32 degrees. I was told that it would be something like:
X (the widest part of wedge material to be removed in inches)=2D(diameter of tube)Cos (180 minus Angle divided by the angle)or something of that nature. Then I can plug in the the angle I need and the diameter of the tube and know how much material has to be removed so the tube can be folded together for the correct angle.
I've only had up to Algebra I in tenth grade in 1956 and barely passed that so please keep it as simple as possible. Trying to make a bracket for my boat trailer and knowing how to do this would help a lot. Thanks

Sorry dude but i cannot fathom in the slightest what you wish to accomplish. Please be a little clearer, about what you wish to do and th e reason for it, so perhaps we could be on the same of boat of thought!

A picture says a thousand words, but I know not everone has JAVA capabilities like alexb, but even then, try and give it a shot using some image-editing s/w and attach it, if you have the time..and are bored enough!!:-)

If I understand your question, you are merely trying to make a pipe with a bend in it at a given angle (32 degrees). You are not trying to determine something more esoteric like how many square inches of material are removed fromt he pipe.

If this is the case, your problem is more about making a accurate cut in the pipe at the proper angle.

Cut across the pipe at half the angle you are looking for (16 degrees in your case). This angle measured relative to cut directly across the pipe which would be a cut at 0 degrees. Turn one of the cut peices 180 degrees about the axis of the pipe cylinder and weld the two together.
