"Applets in IE?"

I'm having the most bizarre problem with loading applets on my computer. I've downloaded the latest Java SDK bundle (1.4.2_01, I believe) and I even downloaded the last windows update.

YET, I still cant see the applets! I know theyre working because I can view them at work and a few friends are able to view this (very very simple) applet and I just dont understand why I cant.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Jennifer

Just to make sure we are on the same ground: "download" is a broad term. It takes "installing" the JVM in a browser. E.g., if you use two browsers, you'll have to install the JVM twice.

All my applets, with the exception of the last few that were compiled in Java 1.3.0, have been compiled in Java 1.1.7.

In both Netscape and IE you must be able to invoke a Java console that might shed some light on what happens. In Netscape it's under Communicator|Tools|Java Console. In Ie, it's under View, but to see it you have to specify in Preferences that this is what you want.

Also, it may help to clear up the caches. In Netscape, under Edit|Preferences...|Advanced|Cache there are two buttons. Click on each in turn and then say Yes.
