the bored are boring. instead of criticizing the poor valdimar who has put time and effort in developing a web sight, why don't you develop a better one. if your not up to that, perhaps you could provide some suggestions to him that would actually change the situation to motivate you in learning math. use your brain, maybe you won't be so bored. |

"if YOU'RE not up to blah blah" would be correct. it annoys me to see how native speakers have such a horrible usage of the lenguage. |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-24-03 AT 09:19 AM (EST) Hello DP and LC,Thank you for the compliments, but I am not the one to receive it. This site, Cut The Knot!, was developed in its entirety by Alex Bogomolny (the moderator, the only charter member, whose name shows up with a little chess pawn in posts). When I found the site, it was fully developed. I am only a regular visitor and admirer of the site, just like you. While I am honored that some of my posts in the CTK Exchange were deemed worth inluding in the site proper, this amounts to perhaps 0.1%. I am sorry for being so overbearing as to create such impression in anyone. Or perhaps I did not, perhaps you just mixed up the names, Alexander - Vladimir? :) Regards, Vladimir |

Hi all, My personal experience here was fun, especially from rather active participation in the 'monkey wrench' of the Bradley conjecture. May be participation is the key. It lasted for 2 months with it's inevitable arguments, mistakes, expectations and the intrigue and mystery all culminating in a tickling the senses feeling of discovery, which happen to be more fun for me than 'Dallas' and 'Dynasty' serials combined. Anyone capable to prove otherwise by very complicated multiplications and divisions ( or any other trick, excluding a round trip to infinity ) may be the first to cast a medium size stone at me. G.

This is a great website! I first found the website a few weeks ago when I was looking up something in geometry. Then google took me here. The discussions in the forums are all very interesting and educational. Thank you for making such a great website Alex! |

I am currently in my last year of a math degree and have realized why maths can be so boring. You see when i first started i was reckless, hence my life had many problems that were ongoing simultanously. At this point i found maths to be rewarding, as i could do the maths. (At this point i didn't live my own life,as i was dependent on others)However i have recently foung the girl that will be with me foever and we are now engaged to be married. I am actually living my own life and not worring about others so much. Thus life is good. One small problem i've lost my interest in maths...just can't get motivated. If anyone can help break the boredom im all ears. In return I'll write on...... |

I find math to be more of sport for the mind than anything. Math in it's own ways is a very fun subject, but at the same time, yes it does have potential to be boring. If you don't like, "maths" and you want to express your feelings with stupid exclamation points and the unecessary capitalization of words, then you must be another 'woe is me' teenager or college frat-boy who thinks the world revolves around him/her. I just want to bring a concept called, 'reality' (oooooooh, scary...) to the topic. If you will look past your d*ck and look at the computer, guess what is allowing you to go to this site or any other site you may visit? This other crazy concept called (get ready, it'll blow your mind away) 'mathematics'. Oh may God, imagine that! Who would have guessed that math has been the foundation of all modern technology for the past 50 or so years? As it would seem, not you. Now go away before I prove your unlimited supply stupidity again. Haha, tool. On a side note, people who use phrases like 'sum' instead of 'some', or 'y' instead of 'why' should go away too. It's not like you use up all your energy typing a couple extra keays, you just sound dumb and illiterate. |

>Now go away before I prove your unlimited supply >stupidity again. Haha, tool. Not wishing to butt in here, but the thread was started in January 2003 by someone who, it'seems, went away long, long ago. >On a side note, people who use phrases like 'sum' instead of >'some', or 'y' instead of 'why' should go away too. It's not >like you use up all your energy typing a couple extra keays, >you just sound dumb and illiterate. Skitt's Law: A post correcting someone else's grammar or spelling will itself contain errors. I have counted six grammar and spelling errors in your post, and at least one idiomatic error. |

Blow, I don't care how many errors I may have typed in there. I'm just trying to make a point and I should of thought about the fact that at some point in time someone who has nothing to do with thier time is going to come around and complain at something without reason. Oh my, look at that I spelled some basic words wrong. Well, yeah that sums it up. It couldn't be a typo... no no no... I must have been spelling words like 'keys' wrong my whole life, yup that's the answer. Also, I wasn't correcting grammar. I was just saying that people who type short (y instead of why) are dumb and about as useful as gothics. Also, how many times did you go over your reply to check for spelling errors? Saying zero would be a lie (I don't spell check hence the grammar and spelling problems, I'm too lazy). In fact don't say anything. Also, 'Skitt's Law' isn't a law. You're correcting my reply yet, I don't see any grammar errors in your reply. I had some typos, you contradict what you say, (or what Skitt's Law says anyway) leave it at that. Now go away and shove your Skitt's Law. |

Well, hello evereyone. I don`t send my opinions here very often, but this time i just couldn't help myself. I'm still in two minds about how to consider the world: funny or just plainly depressing. Today and after reading this whole conversation i'm inclined to the second one. Paul, I must say I agree with you. Ther has been a point not taken into acount by this other guy, and that is I (or Paul, in this case) am free to correct everey single person's grammar, even if my grammar is not good. Why? Because one thing has nothing to do with the other. It's like when you call someone ugly, and then there's always some jerk that goes "uh, don't you look at yourself in teh mirror as well?" Well, I don't care if i'm ugly as well, the thing is that you are. And all this providing that Paul's grammar wasn't good, which is not the case. Is a typo so difficult to recognize? And for anyone who may think that talking about language has nothing to do with math, get the hell out of here. The issue is to be intelligent. Whether it is in mathematical knowledge or the language you speak. You make me sad. All of you. Instead of Paul, you are ok. Not sending you my best wishes; Pilar |

>Then don't loose Your time - go to the bar or watch TV !!! I would, but I consider this a moral duty. I owe it to myself. Thanks for the advise anyway, but i can assure you I have plenty of time to study, take my school and extra-curricular tests, go out with my friends and boyfriend, watch tv and go to the bar. See you. Pilar. |
