LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-01 AT 09:51 AM (EST) Dear Ersin: The topic of knots while offering attractive hands-on experiences has a non-trivial mathematical framework. There are four excellent and very accessible books touching on knots:
- M. Gardner, Knotted Doughnuts, W. H. Freeman and Co, 1986
- I. Stewart, From Here To Infinity, Oxford University Press, 1996
- V.V. Prasolov, Intuitive Topology, AMS, 1991
- C. Livingston, Knot Theory, MAA, 1993
The first two are absolutely popular, the fourth is the most "mathematical" of the four. There's a nice introductory site: https://www.c3.lanl.gov/mega-math/workbk/knot/knot.htmlYou can also mention the related Braid Theory:
