"Logarithm Notation"

I have a quick question about the notation used for logarithms. By convention, what base is implied by the notation y = log x when no base is specified? Is this the same as y = ln x, y = log x (base 10), or something else? Thanks in advance for your help.

log(x) is most commonly taken to be log10(x)

It may also refer to any base. Eg. log a +log a=log a^2, which true for any base.
