"Math Comp. Question"

   Got this question on a math competition. I got 130 for the answer but they say I'm wrong. Please have a look and if I am wrong please tell me how to do this problem.

If: 2 stephanos=13 gooeys, 12 kromes=7 gooeys, 7 sakas=5 stephanos, 29 zangs=8 sakas, how many gooeys are equal to 101.5 zangs.

   If: 2 stephanos=13 gooeys, 12 kromes=7 gooeys, 7 sakas=5 stephanos, 29 zangs=8 sakas, how many gooeys are equal to 101.5 zangs.

Let Stephanos = S, Gooey = G, Kromes = K, Sakas = A, Zangs = Z

Then we have:

2S = 13G.....(1)
12K = 7G.....(2)
7A = 5S......(3)
29Z = 8A.....(4)

(3) * 8 => 56A = 40S
(4) * 7 => 203Z = 56A

Therefore: 203Z = 40S

(1) * 20 => 40S = 260G

Therefore: 203Z = 260G

Divide through by 2.

101.5Z = 130G

So I make it 130 too! Notice Kromes (K) were not required to solve the question...

   Converting your equations to algebra:

stephanos: T
gooeys: g
kromes: k
sakas: s
zangs: z

You need to express g in terms of z.

"2 stephanos = 13 gooeys" means:

g = (13/2)T

(That is, plug 2 in for T, and you will get 13 for g.)

"7 sakas = 5 stephanos" means:

T = (5/7)s

"29 zangs = 8 sakas" means:

s = (8/29)z

Then:

g = (13/2)T = (13/2)(5/7)s = (13/2)(5/7)(8/29)z

Plug in 101.5 for z, and see what you get for g.

(I think you're right!)
