"This should be a simple question to answer, I apologize for the lack of challenge. However, we are stumped we all realize that any number raised to the power of 0, will equal 1, but why? I know there is an explanation I remember it from college, but I can not explain it.
thanks,

1. "This is a matter of convenience and definition.
For n > 2, a[sup]n[/sup] is the product of n factors all equal to a. Therefore, a[sup]n[/sup] / a = a[sup](n-1)[/sup] - the product of n a's divided by a is the product of (n-1) a's. From here, it's natural to [b]define[/b]
a[sup]1[/sup] = a[sup]2[/sup] / a = a, and
a[sup]0[/sup] = a[sup]1[/sup] /a = a/a = 1."
