I was wondering if we could embed applets such as the geoboard java applet into classroom web pages, so that we can include on the same page problems/challenges for the students - so they would be activity pages with the applet included.

If your intention is to the intranet, then yes, you can purchase an intranet license and embed the applets into your private pages. But under no circumstances the applets can be served on the Web.
