"My method was not accepted"

I am good at math and they say im a visual mathematician because i easily see patterns in things and problems and thats why my classmates rely on me and always come to me to ask questions about things related to math but the only problem with me is i forget things after quite some time. I remembered i had a discussion with a teacher and we had a debate. She gave as an assignment to solve one particular problem in advance algebra and i thought it was just easy and answered it all correctly and i remembered i had one formula that got me in trouble.
I dont remember much but i recall i came up with this at the end: 1/3 raised to the 3rd power plus 3 raised to the 3rd power is equal to 1/3 raised to the nth power plus 3 raised to the nth power. and i concluded n=3 but my teacher revealed a formula that showed two possible answers and one of them is the answer i came up with and she didn't accept my answer because the method i used was not yet proven to be a good way to get the right answer. My classmates even teased my method and called it Quita's Property because i just made up the method. I wish somebody could help me with this.

   The other answer is n = -3.

But what is your method? No one would tease you should you reveal it.
