Subject: Keplerian analysis of the volume of a wine barrel

Dear Alexander,

I have seen the Keplerian analysis of the volume of a wine barrel using a 'dipstick' which measures from the centre of the 'straight' side to the bottom 'corner'. A formula which relates the diagonal measured to the ratio of the length and diameter of the cylinder is given. I am interested in a formula which will give the volume of liquid in a cylinder which is not full using a dipstick located in the centre of the straight side. The cylinder is lying on its side. Is there a formula?
