Subject: Base 36

We have a need to generate a unique random number that can never be duplicated. We are thinking of using a combination of date and time down to the millisecond level. I saw your web page but was looking for a BASE 36 calculator but could not find one.

We want to be able to test a few conversions such as taking a number (actually year, Julian day, and time down to milliseconds) and converting it to fewer digits. Perhaps base 36 might help. All ideas appreciated.

Number could be: 9836623595999 (YRDDDHHMMSSss)

Thanks so much for an email reply.

Peter
